LVN/LPN Preoperative Nurse Job
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate LVN/LPN to join our clinical team. This role is responsible for admitting patients to the clinical area and providing high-quality nursing care to preoperative patients. Working under the supervision of an RN, the LVN/LPN assists in developing and implementing individualised nursing care plans. Our Center operates on a teamwork-based staffing model, and employees may be cross-trained in other clinical areas as needed.
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision of the RN, the LVN/LPN will:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic preoperative environment.
- Ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are available and functioning.
- Admit patients and prepare them for scheduled procedures.
- Ensure the RN completes initial assessments and identifies patient care needs.
- Explain nursing procedures to reduce patient anxiety.
- Monitor patient conditions and report significant changes to the RN, admitting physician, or anaesthesiologist.
- Verify surgical consents, preoperative test results, and H&P documentation before procedures.
- Communicate relevant health history to the OR team.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families.
- Accurately document all patient care in the medical record.
- Implement physician orders promptly and correctly.
- Educate patients and family members on care instructions.
- Perform additional nursing duties as assigned.
- Maintain departmental policies, procedures, and patient confidentiality.
- Build effective working relationships with patients, families, and staff.
- Participate in Quality Improvement activities.
- Maintain required clinical competencies, including age-specific and drug administration skills.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited LVN/LPN program.
- Current Texas LVN/LPN license.
- BLS (CPR/AED) certification—hands-on training required.
- Previous preoperative care experience preferred.
Special Skills & Knowledge:
- Preoperative nursing care.
- Operation of vital signs monitoring equipment.
- Strong patient assessment skills.
- ACLS certification preferred.
- Knowledge of Standard Precautions.
- IV therapy experience.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to monitor patients and implement nursing interventions effectively.
- Compliance with facility policies and required education programs.
- Practices within the Texas Nurse Practice Act with accountability for all actions.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to changing patient conditions.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly.
- Ability to understand and solve basic to complex problems.
- Constant walking, standing, and lifting.
- Frequent crouching, stooping, bending, reaching, and twisting.
- Ability to lift, pull, or push average patient weight with assistance.
- Ability to see, hear, and distinguish color.
- Strong ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour
