PCR Molecular Technician

Job Summary

The PCR Molecular Technician is responsible for performing molecular diagnostic testing using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) techniques to detect and quantify nucleic acids in clinical, environmental, or research samples. This role ensures accurate and timely results while adhering to strict quality control and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Sample Preparation: Receive, log, and prepare biological samples for PCR testing following established protocols.

PCR/Clinical Testing: Perform DNA/RNA extraction, PCR amplification, detection using real-time PCR instruments and related technologies and other clinical testing assigned by the supervisor.

Quality Control: Implement and monitor quality assurance measures, including running controls and calibrating equipment.

Data Analysis: Interpret PCR results, validate findings, and enter data into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Compliance: Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, ISO, and other regulatory standards.  Documentation: Accurately record all procedures, observations, and results in accordance with laboratory SOPs.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of PCR instruments and related equipment.

Safety: Follow all biosafety and chemical safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field.

Experience:

o 1–2 years of experience in PCR-based testing (clinical or research setting preferred).

o Familiarity with nucleic acid extraction and real-time PCR platforms.

Skills:

o Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols precisely.

o Proficiency in data analysis and laboratory software.

o Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with high-throughput PCR systems.

Knowledge of next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows.

Certification as a Molecular Biology Technologist (e.g., ASCP MB).

Work Environment:

 Laboratory setting with exposure to biological samples and chemicals.

 Requires standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $33.00 – $36.00 per hour
